Many of our furry sweethearts have been found abandoned, neglected, or unwanted. Our hearts and home are devoted to giving them the tender-loving care that they deserve until they find a place in your heart for a home to call their own. Mary has always been a cat owner and her story began nearly 30 years ago when a renter called to ask her what to do about a stray cat on their porch. Mary trapped the cat who was totally feral and started feeding him. Naming him Hobie the local vet gave her a pill in the food to sedate him enough to take him to the vet to be checked out.

She already had 3 cats at the time, but she continued to work with him and eventually Hobie became a calm, friendly and sweet cat. Through word of mouth, people started to bring strays for Mary to care for and nurture. CW who was found in a cellar well and had a concussion and when a gentleman heard the story of CW, he wanted to adopt and that was the beginning of rescuing and adoption of abandoned cats and kittens and the beginning of the Animal Keepers Rescue.
It took Mary's husband Bruce a bit longer to embrace Mary's passion for all of the cats coming to their doorstep. At times he would find himself talking to the cats and occasionally letting the cats roam away from the litter pans! At times he would find himself talking to the cats and occasionally letting the cats roam away from the litter pans! Although in the beginning he wasn't always fully on board, he realized that Mary's passion was something important and he was very proud of what she accomplished. Bruce is now Mary's very enthusiastic volunteer right hand man.

Animal Rescue Keepers fostered a stray cat, not much more than a kitten herself, along with her kittens for me. I found her in the far end of my back yard and she slowly began to come to my back door and I fed her through the winter. The temperature dipped very low and since my husband did not want to bring a cat back into our house I purchased a heated cat house to get her through the winter. Suddenly noticeably plumper, Lois had 5 kittens. I began searching for a no kill shelter and I found Mary and foster volunteer, Lisa who cared for Lois and her kittens until they could be adopted. My husband finally agreed to give Lois a permanent home and I ended up adopting her! She is the most affectionate and sweet cat and has won my husband over too. I was so impressed with their program and the adoption of Lois's kittens, I now volunteer when I can help.
